On the Fence About Becoming a Member?
There are many reasons to become a member at STEAM Junction and they vary from person to person and family to family. It is our belief that all people are creative. This is what makes us human.
As a member, we help you enable your creativity through our resources. We know that people have problems to solve, things to fix, ideas they want to make into reality. We provide the infrastructure to make that possible and to help you succeed with your ideas and projects.
Reasons to become a member:
21st Century Digital Fabrication Tools
Gain access to new tools like CNC machines, 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, design software, along with advice, help, and support. Your monthly membership dues are a fraction of the cost of any one of these tools which alone could cost thousands or tens of thousands of dollars, not counting support and help.
Traditional Tools and Equipment
Have access to traditional tools like sewing machines, woodworking shop, hand tools, crafting tools, and more.
You are not alone! There are lots of folks in our community that can help you with ideas, projects, skills, and networking to resources. Just hanging out at STEAM Junction and talking to your fellow members and observing their projects will give you ideas, leads, and get your own creative juices flowing. Entrepreneurship: Many members are working to start new creative and technical businesses. These range from side businesses and ETSY stores, to inventors and whole new industry for Alamance County. We can help you with ideas, connect you to resources, and provide you access to tools and equipment that will help you with prototyping, small run manufacturing, and more.
We have a lot to offer students, parents, families, and educators. STEAM Junction is designed to be family friendly and allows access for older children and teens. We have discounts for educators on memberships, field trips for schools, and after-school and summer STEM and Maker camps and workshops. We are a great place to work on science projects, school projects, or to host your Robotics or other STEM competition teams.
You spend about 1/3 of your time at home (eating, sleeping, cutting the grass), 1/3 of your time at work (paying the bills) and the question becomes, what do you do with the other 1/3 of your time? This idea is called 3rd space. You probably don’t have a lot of choice in terms of things you have to get done at home or work, but STEAM Junction is a great place to just come and hang-out, connect with other makers, play vintage video games, make music, learn a new skill, get access to new tools. There is always something new and interesting going on including a multitude of free events produced by the Alamance Makers Guild and all of its interest groups.
Support for the Maker Movement and STEM Education in Alamance County
Your membership at STEAM Junction is the primary source of revenue to pay our bills, support our expenses, and allows the Makerspace to be sustainable and to grow. Having STEAM Junction is a key resource in our larger Maker Ecosystem. STEAM Junction is home and headquarters to Alamance Makers Guild, hosting many hours of free meetings and programming each month. We are also sponsors, HQ for production, and producers of Maker Faire Burlington (NC’s largest and longest running Maker Faire). Through STEAM Junction we are connecting community resources like Elon University, Alamance Community College, the library, ABSS and private schools, the Arts Council, and the City of Burlington. We are also leaders in the project (through Burlington Downtown Corporation) to make Downtown Burlington, NC an “Innovation Village.”
